- Teacher Training Program: Anthroposophically-informed professional development training for teachers and administrators in public and private Waldorf Schools. (June 22–July 7th, 2018) Concentration areas are:

How long is the Gradalis teacher training – All concentration areas?
Two school years–26 months. The training is divided into 7 Semester Units.
- 2-Day Orientation for teachers new to Waldorf education
- three Summer Intensives (two weeks each)
- one practicum weekend all fall & spring semesters
- four grade level webinars all fall & spring semesters
- two philosophical webinars all fall & spring semesters
- one pedagogical webinar per fall & spring semesters
- one field mentor visit to your classroom all fall & spring semesters
- total of 26 months of instruction and training
When can I get into a training?
New students are welcome to apply anytime during the year to join a training. We strongly encourage students to begin their training in the summer, however, in certain cases, fall enrollment is possible. Each training begins in the Summer. Be sure to apply as soon as possible. Where is the Training in the Summer?
Summer Teacher Training for public & independent Waldorf school teachers continues at Wasatch Waldorf Charter School in Salt Lake City, Utah, from summer 2016 to 2018. The next training cohort will be located in the area where the most students are located. We expect to stay in Utah or move to another region based on enrollment beginning summer 2019.
What can I expect in each semester of the teacher training program?
- The Summer Intensives include: Visual Arts (painting, sculpting and drawing); Temporal Arts (eurythmy, spacial dynamics, speech arts & music: singing and instruments); Biography work; Rudolf Steiner’s philosophy & anthroposophical foundations; Student Study (remedial approaches in Waldorf schools, standards & assessment; Waldorf Culture; and Waldorf Methodology. - The fall and spring semesters include one practicum weekend each. These are held from early Friday through late Saturday evening.
- There are eight grade-level webinars per year to support upcoming main lesson blocks, and four philosophical webinars per school year that teach Anthroposophical foundations and inner development, as well as instruction useful to teachers and administrators. Also included are two pedagogical webinars per year focused on Waldorf standards, assessment and remedial approaches in Waldorf schools.
- Internship/Externship is allowed in your own classroom, as Gradalis students are generally working teachers in Waldorf public and private schools. Homework and reflections on classroom practice are integral to this part of the training.
- A Field Mentor will visit you in your classroom once each semester during the 2 school years to observe to provide insight in Waldorf pedagogy and best practices for your classroom and your growth as a teacher.
- Work with other teachers across the nations and share techniques, songs, stories, art and much more. Many students say that one of the best parts of the training is creating life long friendships and a support network for the journey of Waldorf teaching.
- Waldorf Methodology Block content per each grade in a variety of forms.
What is the result of this type of training?
This type of training allows teachers to continue teaching in the classroom while completing their training. Experienced Waldorf instructors lead students through blocks, artistic work, working with diverse students, and classroom management. Students will experience the arts and story telling in a classroom setting to support them to be the best teacher they can be. As a result of this multifaceted training, teachers feel more prepared and confident to face the ongoing challenges of running a classroom. Gradalis candidate-teachers are able to document their internship in their own classrooms, thereby benefiting themselves, their students and the school in which they teach.
Will I have homework?
Yes, you will have homework. The homework is designed to impart the philosophical understanding of Waldorf pedagogy through three main avenues:
- Lectures and webinars by experienced Waldorf teachers
- Reading of the basic books by Steiner and other assigned articles (some written papers are assigned)
- Discussion with mentors and fellow classmates
Other homework includes:
- Journaling inner work
- Preparation and demonstration of your work in the classroom. This demonstration takes two forms and is meant to focus on your actual classroom work.
Such work includes:
- Sharing photos of your Main Lesson books, paintings, board drawings, etc. These are shared during Grade Level Webinars.
- Field Mentoring on-site at your school and in your classroom.
Instructors are respectful of the daily demands on our students as class teachers when assigning homework. However, keep in mind that the homework must be done in order to successfully complete the program. We hope to be able to offer some assistance in the future, however at this time, funding is up to the student and/or the school.
What are the methods of payment?
Tuition is payable by on-line invoice, check or automatic transfer. Gradalis invoices students as per their personal Tuition Agreement. Monthly and Semester Payments Plans are possible. Tuition must be paid in advance of each semester if paying by semester. Tuition must be paid in full prior to the last semester of the program.
Does Gradalis offer student loans or tuition assistance?
Our program does not qualify for Federal Student Aid. We do not offer loans, but they may be acquired from a bank or private lending institution. We do not provide tuition assistance. Friends of Gradalis is our non-profit organization designed to obtain grants and funding for program development and student scholarships. We hope to be able to offer some assistance in the future, however at this time, funding is up to the student and/or the school. Does Gradalis offer college credit?
Gradalis is not a degree granting institution. We offer Waldorf teacher training certification.
Will charter school start-up grants cover tuition of Waldorf Teacher Training?
Depending on your Start up Grant—Yes. Our professional development program does not offer credits or a degree. Tuition payments are generally covered by Start-up grants. Make sure you check on your particular grant to be sure.
